Rasha Abdo… The Leader of Al-Fuheis’ Triumphs and the Architect of the Jordanian Dream in Women’s Basketball

Amman – Within our new segment “Basketball Tales,” every time the trophies are lifted high and the cheers echo through the stands, one figure stands tall — national team player and captain of Shabab Al-Fuheis Club, Rasha Abdo. With the championship cup in her hands and determination in her heart, she embodies years of perseverance and proves that winning the Arab Women’s Club Championship twice in a row was no coincidence, but rather the fruit of hard work and a true team spirit.
This year, the Arab title had a special flavor in Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah, hosted by Al-Ula Club in Saudi Arabia. After a long series of challenges, Rasha Abdo led Al-Fuheis to maintain their high level of play, showing that true achievement is never born easily — it is forged through persistence and a relentless will to succeed. As she recalls in the first episode of “Basketball Tales,” Rasha said:
“This title had a very special meaning because it came after so much effort. We proved that our victories don’t happen by chance, but by merit.”
Rasha remembers the most beautiful moment of the tournament — when the final whistle blew and joy filled the faces of the players, the coaching staff, and the fans.
“At that moment,” she said, “I felt that all our hard work hadn’t gone to waste… It was truly a moment of triumph for our spirit and determination.”
As a captain, Rasha knows that leadership isn’t about words — it’s about actions that inspire. She sustains her team’s spirit through calm confidence and constant encouragement, reminding her teammates that every point can change the course of a game. She firmly believes that faith in oneself and in the team is the true source of strength.
Though the responsibility brings pressure, Rasha sees it as motivation:
“The pressure is always there, but for me, it’s a driving force. Every time I step back on the court, I feel the need to perform better — not just for myself, but for every young girl who looks up to me as a role model.”
Behind the captain on the court stands a woman who wears many hats — professional athlete, working woman, and mother. Balancing these roles isn’t easy, but Rasha manages it through discipline and the support of her family. With a smile, she says:
“There’s always time if you have the intention and the will.”
Motherhood hasn’t always been easy alongside professional sports. The hardest moments came during long trips away from her daughters, but she found comfort in knowing that her presence on the court sends them a powerful message:
“A mother can achieve her dreams without giving them up.”
Behind the scenes, her emotional balance and strength come from her family.
“My husband, my daughters, and my parents are the real fuel behind my success,” she says. “Without their support, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
For Rasha, championships are more than titles — they are the culmination of a journey filled with passion, commitment, and endurance. Every victory carries memories of effort, challenge, and patience, sending a clear message:
“Perseverance through difficulties leads to great results.”
To young girls who dream of pursuing basketball, Rasha delivers an inspiring message:
“Believe in yourself and work on your dream, no matter how small it seems. Don’t let fear or others’ opinions stop you. The road is tough, but the achievement is worth every drop of sweat.”
As for her future ambitions, she concludes with the confidence of a true leader:
“Our goal is to keep achieving, to develop young players who will carry the torch after us. I dream of seeing Jordan always among the champions of Arab and Asian tournaments.”
Rasha Abdo is more than just a team captain — she is the story of a Jordanian woman who believed in her dream until it became reality, and believed in her team until they became champions. Her story inspires every girl to know that sport is not just competition, but a way of life — one filled with passion, perseverance, and true sportsmanship.
