To Lead Charge at FIBA Asia Cup

Amman, Jordan – June 1, 2025– The Jordan Basketball Federation(JBF) today announced a landmark appointment, naming Canadian Roy Rana as “Senior Director, Basketball Operations/ Head Coach of Jordan’s Men’s National Team”. Rana will immediately take the helm of the National Team, leading its campaign at the prestigious 2025 FIBA Asia Cup this summer in Jeddah Saudi Arabia, while simultaneously embarking on a comprehensive restructuring of Jordan’s entire basketball ecosystem. Coach Rana, 56, will officially assume his duties on June 1, 2025.
In this role, Coach Rana will lead the senior national team and oversee the technical strategy and long-term development planning for all national basketball programs in Jordan. His appointment marks a significant step in the Federation’s preparations for the FIBA Asia Cup 2025, which will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from August 5 to 17. Jordan has been drawn into Group C, alongside Saudi Arabia, China, and India.

Coach Rana brings a wealth of international experience and a distinguished coaching record. Most recently, he concluded his tenure with the Kyoto Hannaryz of Japan’s B.League completely transforming the organization in 3 seasons. Previously, he quickly built excellence with the Egyptian National Team, introducing a new standards, culture, identity, and talent recruitment model that propelled Egypt to qualification for the 2023 FIBA World Cup, 2024 Olympic qualifiers, and one of the nation’s greatest achievements in its basketball history. Coach Rana also served as the lead assistant coach with the German National Team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
His extensive résumé includes serving as an assistant coach with the NBA’s Sacramento Kings and playing a pivotal role in helping the Canadian Sr Men’s National Team go 10-2 and qualify for the 2019 FIBA World Cup. As head coach of Canada’s U17 and U19 teams, he guided U17 to 2010 World Cup Bronze in Hamburg, Germany and the Canadas Jr Men’s National Team to a historic gold medal at the 2017 FIBA U19 World Cup in Cairo —Canada’s first-ever World Championship in basketball.
Coach Rana’s leadership extends to roles with the San Antonio Spurs and Atlanta Hawks, as well as serving as Head Coach of the World Team at the Nike Hoop Summit and Director of the Nike All Asia Camp. He has spearheaded talent development initiatives across Canada and Ontario, integrating athlete development models and contributing significantly to the growth of the sport. Rana is widely regarded as one of the most decorated coaches in Canadian history with medal accomplishments at the National Team, Provincial Teams , High School and University level. Rana has also helped qualify 10 Teams in 3 different countries (Canada, Germany, Egypt) to FIBA World Cup and Olympic Competitions .
